Algın Okursoy completed undergraduate and graduate studies in statistics at Dokuz Eylül University and received a doctorate in business administration from Adnan Menderes University, and is a faculty member in the Department of Logistics Management at the Söke Faculty of Business, Aydın Adnan Menderes University.

The common thread across this work is decision-making: measuring which option is better when the criteria are many, the objectives conflict and the information is incomplete. Multi-criteria decision-making methods, data envelopment analysis and operations research are different tools for that same question. These methods have been applied to supplier selection, port efficiency, warehouse location and the socio-economic ranking of provinces, among other areas. More recent work involves text mining, deriving service-quality measures from unstructured data such as customer reviews.

Courses taught at undergraduate and graduate level include statistics, operations research, decision support systems and decision-making methods in logistics. Okursoy is among the authors of Multi-Criteria Decision Making: An Application with the Python Programming Language (2023) and Linear Programming and the Simplex Method (2022).
